For September’s free Book of the Month, we’ve teamed up with Insomniac Press to share a title that tells two interwoven stories. It offers an honest and intimate portrait of legendary musician Neil Young, as seen by his half-sister Astrid Young. This fresh, personal perspective is seen in the broader fabric of Astrid’s life, exploring the tensions and joys within their famous family along with an insider’s look at the music scene through Astrid’s own career.
This PDF eBook includes a new chapter from the updated print edition plus a bonus, WOWIO-exclusive video interview with Astrid Young (you’ll need recent versions of Adobe Reader and QuickTime to view the video within the eBook).
WOWIO editor and futurist Gary Hamel looks at the evolving art of storytelling, exploring the ways that both traditional and emerging book forms work with our brains to create powerful, altogether-new stories.
We’re partnering with one of our publisher friends to bring you this exceptional title — it’s a satirical SF novel that hit the bookshelves just this week. And you can have it… for free!
This WOWIO edition is special in another way — it contains bonus audio featuring a reading by the author that’s not available in any other eBook. You can buy it on WOWIO, or spend a bit more to get it in paperback.
Or you can download it for free.
All you have to do is come to Facebook and be our friend, and we’ll get you a download link. If you’ve already “liked” WOWIO on Facebook, you can come get your free download, too!
Grab it now, it’s only available for free until Wednesday, August 25.
The DrunkDuck Happy Hour Meetup Event at San Diego Comic-Con was fantastic! DrunkDuckers from all over met at the DD gathering on the first full day of the Con to attach handles and webcomics to names and faces. For one evening, it was a real-life version of DD’s tagline — “The Webcomics Community.” Snaps from the meetup are on WOWIO’s Flickr stream, along with other photos from SDCC and the Comic Cruise.
Thanks to all of the DDers who could make it — your presence was greatly appreciated. The DrunkDuck crew and other miscellaneous WOWIO-ites had a great time meeting and talking with all of you!
Special shout-outs for two DD members — theJimmy and nightmarelunatic. Be sure to check out their webcomics on DrunkDuck.com by clicking on the panels at right.
Howard Pyle’s tales of adventure and heroism are perennial favorites, so we wanted to share our all-new, remastered edition of The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood as the August 2010 WOWIO Book of the Month.
The Robin Hood legend has been told and retold, evolving over the centuries as it moved from ballads and books to the 30s-era Errol Flynn swashbuckler, various television incarnations and more recent Hollywood-style blockbusters. In this WOWIO Classics edition, we wanted to step back a bit and celebrate the original medieval flavor of Pyle’s story. To complete the retro feel, we’ve also included the complete first episode of the 50s television series, The Adventures of Robin Hood (you’ll need Adobe Reader version 6 or later to watch the video).
So take a step back with us to a simpler time of adventure, and get your free download now…
The WOWIO Comic Cruise at Comic-Con in San Diego was a huge success. We loved having the chance to meet readers, publishers, creators, the press, investors and other friends — old and new! And, of course, it was quite memorable for all of us to soak in the amazing and unique Comic-Con experience.
In case you missed it, be sure to check out WowioTV’s archive of our live coverage of the Con.
We’ve pulled together some of our snapshots from the goings-on. Click each button below to take a look!
We’ll be bringing you lots of great pictures and videos from this year’s Comic-Con. Here are some images from the WOWIO yacht, our home base at Comic-Con.
Hip hop artists like Tupac, DMX, Eric B. and Rakim have written powerful modern poetry — lyrical storytelling that creates a living image of urban experience. Graphic novels, too, capture and tell their stories in a uniquely compelling way, amplified by the fluid flow of artwork into a form that transcends the written words.
We’re excited to announce that WOWIO is teaming up with Universal Music Group to meld these worlds in the graphic novel series, Hip Hop Chronicles. “I love the idea of developing deep, rich story concepts from non-traditional sources such as music, and the creation of graphic novels based on the lyrics of some of music’s most dynamic and iconic lyricists provides a vibrant canvas for blending these two storytelling mediums,” said Brian Altounian, CEO of WOWIO.
Look for a full preview on WEvolt in August, ahead of the download release on WOWIO in September!
