Book of the Month: Critically Acclaimed Fantasy
As many of you know, we’ve been offering a free download every month since the earliest days of WOWIO, and we always do our best to pick intriguing titles that will pique the interest of our readers and new visitors.
This month, in honor of our site relaunch, we’re doing something really special — we’ve teamed up with publisher ChiZine Publications to offer one of their critically acclaimed fantasy novels — The Choir Boats by Daniel A. Rabuzzi — as our July Book of the Month.
Described as “vibrant” and rich with “verve and wit,” it’s a seagoing fantasy yarn that is like “Gulliver’s Travels crossed with The Golden Compass and a dollop of Pride and Prejudice.”
This WOWIO-exclusive edition also includes a bonus insert with previously unpublished artwork for The Choir Boats by Deborah Mills.
UPDATE
The July 2010 Book of the Month period is ended, but The Choir Boats is still available for preview and purchase on WOWIO. Take a look!

This is a beautiful, well-crafted, exciting read. I can’t wait for the next volume.
By Stephen A. Merrill MD, July 6, 2010 @ 7:48 am
What a wonderfully crafted book. The author’s use of verbiage as well as his wordplay makes any lover of language ‘kvell’ with joy. In addition it’s a real page turner. This reader was sad when he finished it and can’t wait for the sequel. Have bought copies for friends. Nicest gift one can give. Mr Rabuzzi is a treasured author, one who will become well-known and widely quoted.

Fabulous fantasy! In this age of much hack writing, it is a gift to find a new voice that is fresh, literate, imaginative, and intelligent. The illustrations are priceless. Let’s have lots more from this talented writer.

the pdf won’t open. is that why it’s free?
By Richard, July 14, 2010 @ 10:37 am
I have to agree with georgie. The message I received was:
“There was an error opening this document. Bad encrypt dictionary”
By Richard, July 14, 2010 @ 11:17 am
Nevermind about the error. I was using Adobe Acrobat. I download the newest copy of Adobe reader and was able to open the document.

How awesome of you and the author to do this fantastic thing. I haven’t read it yet, but I’m TOTALLY looking forward to!
(and then the next, and the next, and the next, d’accord)

likewise I had to update Adobe Reader, still won’t open properly in Preview (I love to avoid Adobe software when I can), but now opens properly in Acrobat.
P.S. I was just teasing with the snark, obviously plenty o’ people had opened it just fine.
Thanks for trying new distrib models and perhaps hastening the decline of classical capitalism.

A few readers were running into problems opening the PDF, so we’ve just made it available in an earlier version of the PDF format (now compatible with old versions of Adobe Reader back to version 6). While we recommend that everyone use the latest version of Reader, this should clear up the compatibility issues as long as your PDF app supports v6+.
If you were having trouble previously, try downloading a fresh copy and let us know how it goes.

I am very intrigued. Sounds great. Thank you. Hopped over from twitter (@SherWordsGirl) after chatting with @Casey_McCormick.

Hello Daniel and Deborah, this is very cool – my first book download. I look forward to reading it all! See you soon! Margaret

I already have this book in paper, and now I can read it on my iPad too. And so can you. An early 19C historical novel such as you’ve never read before, and lovely illustrations–thanks, Daniel and Deborah!

What a terrific yarn. Toward the end, I simply couldn’t put it (or more accurately, my iPad) down! When do we get to see Volume 2?

Epic read. Rabuzzi crafts each sentence as thoroughly as the beautiful woodcut adorning the cover. I cannot wait for The Indigo Pheasant. CANNOT!
