On July 9, 2011, he recorded his 3,000th career hit, a home run in the third inning of an afternoon game against The Tampa Bay Rays. Jeter finished the day with 5 hits in 5 at bats, the only player to do so the day of achieving 3,000 hits, the last of which proved to be the game winning hit.

He is the only member of the 3,000 hit club to record all of his hits with the New York Yankees.
