WOWIO’s Year in Review

It seems like 2010 just started yesterday, no?
We’re not exactly sure how it blew by so quickly, but one thing is for sure… it was an amazing and eventful year at WOWIO!
We met and exceeded many exciting milestones this year, such as: the issuance of our eBook patent, the expansion of our library, launched a new website and we even took a sweet ride on one behemoth BOAT!

In case you missed any of these events, here’s a quick recap of this past year’s fun and exhilarating ride:
Over the summer, we took the show on the road and demonstrated the power of the WOWIO brand at San Diego Comic Con 2010! Get a quick glimpse of the event festivities here, here and here.

Then came the big announcement of our patent application approval! The patent covers a variety of methods that allow for the delivery of ads in eBooks, including contextual ads. If you didn’t get a chance to check it out, you can get the full read here.
Soon after, we closed another big deal with the Ingram Content Group and added hundreds of thousands of titles from the Ingram catalogue to the WOWIO marketplace. The list includes titles from major publishers, such as: Random House, McGraw-Hill, and Harlequin Enterprises Limited. If you haven’t been on our site in a while, we say you high-tail it over there and check out our great new selection, such as this, this, or this!

Lastly, we launched our latest and greatest website, POP Galaxy — it’s your intergalactic space hub to all things COOL! It’s a great site for reading up on your favorite comics, video games, and movies — basically all things geeky chic!

So there you have it, a fast look back on 2010. In just a few days, we’ll bid adieu to 2010, so we’d like to thank all our loyal friends and fans for supporting us this last year, and we look forward to an even more exciting new year with all of you.

Wishing you all the very best in 2011!

The DrunkDuck Happy Hour Meetup Event at San Diego Comic-Con was fantastic! DrunkDuckers from all over met at the DD gathering on the first full day of the Con to attach handles and webcomics to names and faces. For one evening, it was a real-life version of DD’s tagline — “The Webcomics Community.” Snaps from the meetup are on WOWIO’s Flickr stream, along with other photos from SDCC and the Comic Cruise.

Thanks to all of the DDers who could make it — your presence was greatly appreciated. The DrunkDuck crew and other miscellaneous WOWIO-ites had a great time meeting and talking with all of you!

Special shout-outs for two DD members — theJimmy and nightmarelunatic. Be sure to check out their webcomics on DrunkDuck.com by clicking on the panels at right.

The WOWIO Comic Cruise at Comic-Con in San Diego was a huge success. We loved having the chance to meet readers, publishers, creators, the press, investors and other friends — old and new! And, of course, it was quite memorable for all of us to soak in the amazing and unique Comic-Con experience.

In case you missed it, be sure to check out WowioTV’s archive of our live coverage of the Con.
