A drifter named Death arrives in the small town of Dillinger, and Paxton Livingston has made an unfortunate deal with him. Unfortunately, the chances of surviving this deal-gone-wrong are against him. As he and his family prepare for the inevitable, things aren’t exactly going smoothly for Death either. Soon a gunfight breaks out between Death and the rest of the town. Will this brave banker save his daughter, his faithful town, and its citizens? Or will Death win this game once again? You’ll have to lasso the second chapter today to find out!

In 1949 Arthur Shay followed Nelson Algren around with a camera, gathering pictures for a photo-essay piece he was pitching to Life Magazine. The magazine didn’t pick up the article, but Shay and Algren became fast friends. Algren gave Shay’s camera entrance into the back-alley world of Division Street, and Shay captured Algren’s poetry on film. They were masters chronicling the same patch of ground with different tools.
“Chicago’s Nelson Algren” is the compilation of hundreds of photos—many recently discovered and published here for the first time—of Nelson Algren over the course of a decade and a deeply moving homage to the writer and his city.

The eBook market is exploding and Americans are embracing their newfound love for this digital technology by dumping the traditional bound book in lieu of a compact portable library. So who’s buying these books? And where do most of these voracious eReaders reside? Well, according to Mark Coker’s recent article, it’s the state where “everything is bigger”…yes, Texas!

His curiosity about who’s reading eBooks led him to crunch eBook sales data for the last four months (December 2010 through March 2011) and he came away with some interesting results.
